Tony and Lisa work for the narcotics squad and make a large drug bust, but the leader escapes. Tony's wife is killed during an attempt on his life. He originally thought she was killed for revenge but that may not be the case. His wife was at an old house the day before taking photographs. Eventually Tony discovers a dead body inside the house causing him to track down the owner, a Countess now committed to an insane asylum. The Countess holds the key to the death of Tony's wife and the ongoing killing spree taking place all around him.

An average film for Lado, it's much more successful as an action film than as a susoense item. The plot does have a few twists in it, especially involving the death of Tony's wife which tie to a crime committed years earlier (a favorite theme of the Gialli). Lado, like Ruggero Deodato, has developed into a very slick director, but as with most of his contemporaries, his best work was done in the seventies. Most notable aspect of this film is the photography by Luigi Kuveiller (DEEP RED). Night scenes are crisp, clear and add to the glossy look. It's too bad there wasn't a screenplay to go with it. Annie Giradot as the Countess steals what few scenes she's in, especially when she paints the screen red by attacking a male nurse at the asylum she's incarcerated within.
